At Field & Flower HQ, we’re working tirelessly to reduce the amount of plastic packaging we use in your meat boxes and reduce our carbon footprint.
We already use DPD as a courier who are CO2 neutral alongside our own driver, Dave who follows a South London eco-route. We’re currently trialling biodegradable packing for our products, which although costlier, will be worth the investment.
We’re also committed to paying British farmers and fishmongers a fair price for the high welfare, quality products they offer and for the exceptional environmental and sustainability credentials they hold.
As a customer of Field & Flower there are things you can do to help reduce food wastage and our carbon footprint, and meal planning is a great way to start.
We’ve put together some suggestions to help you not make a meal of meal planning!
• Plan ahead and set some time aside to organise your deliveries. In the ‘manage subscription’ section you can manage your next three delivery dates, delivery addresses and tailor the contents of each order. This saves rushing when you receive your order reminder email
• Look ahead to events in your diary. Got a quiet Sunday to batch cook? Planning a family BBQ? Looking to get ahead and save money by taking your lunches to work?
• Our new Piri Piri Chicken Wings (750g) make a great picnic option, serving three. Whack these in the oven and enjoy cold in the park or countryside. You can also re-use our icepacks in your coolbag.
• Need a batch cooking idea to kick-start your meal planning? Try our best-selling Beef Mince (450g) serves four. Or why not buy two 450g packs and make a big batch of chilli? Freeze and you’ll have enough portions for 8 meals! Ideal for when you don’t feel like cooking.
• Replace your Friday night take-away with homemade fish and chips trying our Coley Loin (260g), which serves two. It’s a delicate sustainable white fish that is delicious when pan-fried in a light batter and cooked with homemade chips and mushy peas.
• Check out our recipe section for quick and easy midweek dinners or lazy weekend lunches
• All our meat and fish is sent fresh – never frozen. So, on delivery you can easily split your order between the fridge and freezer. Take a look at the use-by dates to decide the order you’ll eat your meat and fish. Typically, products such as charcuterie, sous-vide pulled pork and crispy pork belly and bacons have 10 days use-by.
• Set a reminder in your phone or put a note on the fridge or kitchen side so you remember to plan your dinner the day before by defrosting your meat and fish in the fridge. For a speedy supper, you can defrost your steaks in cold water and get them straight on the grill.
• Cooking for one or have different tastes? No problem. Unwrap your steaks and sausages and portion into reusable Tupperware before freezing, thus minimising food waste!
• Tasty trick – freeze your cheese. You can use up the end bits in a tasty macaroni.
Once you’ve planned and received your Field & Flower order, here’s how to recycle your box:
• Leave your icepacks to defrost. Once thawed, score and pour the purified water down your sink or on your plants. These can go in with your household recycling.
• Take out the foil liner and flatten. This is not yet widely recycled but we hope to offer a collection service soon.
• Break down the cardboard box into smaller pieces and this can be recycled too.
