James Mansfield & James Flower
We started Field & Flower because my dad was farming traditionally with great care on Home Farm, but his cattle were just being lost in the food chain and sold at market to buyers who placed little value on his hard work and effort. Now we’re able to connect our farm and other farms like ours directly with those like you who care about the same things we do. With my sister Claire at the helm on Home Farm, it’s great to see a small traditional farm like ours can still thrive. So what’s different about the way we farm?
1. Traditional Breeds
We raise proper traditional breed animals who grow naturally to varying shapes and sizes.
2. Outdoor Living
All farm animals belong outdoors. We give them plenty of space to roam and provide shelter for those that need it.
3. Keeping it Natural
Our animals eat natural diets and are left to grow at their own pace. Rushing this leads to poor quality meat, as tissues grow too quickly and don’t have time to develop proper flavour and texture.
4. Hand Butchery
Our butchers prepare every order by hand in our Somerset butchery. They do this by eye using their traditional butchers’ knives, working to get the best from each cut of meat, with no wastage.
5. No Middle Man
We’re farmers ourselves, and working directly with our farmers and butchers, we make sure everyone gets a fair deal. We don’t ask that every steak looks the same and we never throw away good meat.
All our boxes arrive on your doorstep with full traceability information but if you’d like to know more about what we do on our farms, we’d love to hear from you.
