Where do you get your turkeys from?

At Field & Flower, we pride ourselves in sourcing award-winning, free-range Bronze turkey from independent farmers that uphold the highest standards from farm through to slaughter, and in production and processing. This ensures we’re bringing you the very best turkey you can buy.

This year, our Christmas turkeys come from two trusted farmers: John in Devon and Rod in Coventry.

Are your turkeys free-range?

Absolutely! All of our turkeys are properly free-range. They roam freely outdoors on grassy fields, where they can peck, preen, and explore at their leisure, with huts for shelter during the cooler months. We exclusively raise traditional Bronze turkeys, a slow-growing breed that matures over a minimum of six months. By Christmas, they have developed a natural layer of fat, which enriches the flavour of the meat. Our turkeys are then game-hung and dry-plucked by hand, resulting in tender, succulent, and full-flavored meat.

What are your turkeys fed?

The poults hatch early in the summer and are then brooded for about six weeks until it’s safe for the birds to roam freely outside. From start to finish, the turkeys are fed a simple and traditional cereal feed mix designed to complement the seeds, flora and fauna that they would find naturally in their area. When the turkeys are big enough to be free-ranging on the surrounding fields and meadows, they also have the opportunity to forage on grasses, herbs and seasonal berries.

How long should I cook the turkey for?

We deliver all turkeys with a Christmas cooking guide. Our free-range birds have a natural layer of fat that conducts heat throughout the turkey, so they can cook quicker than your typical supermarket turkey. For reference, a 5.3kg turkey can be cooked in 2 hours 15 minutes, plus 45 minutes resting time.

Why should I choose a Field & Flower turkey over the supermarkets?

Our heritage breed Bronze turkeys are raised with exceptional care for exceptional taste. Unlike intensively reared birds, our turkeys are fully free-range, spending much of their lives outdoors and are slow-grown for at least six months. This allows them to develop a unique layer of fat that locks in moisture and flavour. After reaching maturity, the birds are game-hung for 10 days and hand-plucked, which further enhances the taste and texture, giving the meat a succulent quality and ensuring a beautifully crisp, glossy skin.

Will the turkey fit in my oven?

Our Extra Extra Large Free Range Bronze Turkey (8kg+) will be approx. W30cm x L40cm x H17cm (dependent on exact weight) and will fit in a standard oven.
