About us


We’re James and James. We met at Agricultural College back in 2006, where we were both studying for degrees in Agricultural Science. It’s fair to say we hit it off straight away through our shared passion for farming and love of high-quality meat. After realising a gap in the market we could fill by merging the two, it seemed only natural that we start a business. We did that the only way we knew how: with one cow and a lot of hard work. Five years later, we’ve fed several thousand customers and have won a few great awards.

After graduating in 2009, we officially founded field&flower. Our aim was to produce and sell high-quality, locally-sourced meat, and deliver it to people in the most convenient way possible.

We set up on James Flower’s fifth-generation family farm in the heart of the Gordano Valley in Somerset. Our cattle have only ever been naturally-reared and the extra step of dry hanging the meat ensures that the beef is tenderised and flavoured to perfection. It’s a costly process, but we have no doubt that it’s worth it.

From there, we sold the beef in cool boxes to friends and family, who spread the word about field&flower. We also started a small catering business and spent time on the festival scene, where we sold our spicy beef sausages and burgers to hungry concert-goers at events like Glastonbury and V Festival, where we ended up serving field&flower meat to Sir Richard Branson.

Traditional methods and friendly customer service quickly earned us the reputation of selling high-quality, exceptional value-for-money beef products, and before we knew it, we were delivering meat boxes all over the country and receiving accolades. We’ve even delivered to Buckingham Palace!

A few years of hard work, commitment, and passion for what we do has meant we’ve been able to broaden our product range to include grass-fed lamb, as well as free-range pork and chicken, plus wild game.

We’re also pleased to be selling some of our favourite Somerset cheeses, seasonal fresh fish, and a range of field&flower condiments. What started with only the two of us has now grown to a company employing over 15 people, whose jobs range from providing exceptional customer service in the office, to hand packing boxes in the butchery. We definitely wouldn’t be where we are today without our committed team.

There’s no doubt that we’re still a small business, but the recognition, praise, and loyal customers we’ve been lucky enough to have during our first five years have been incredibly encouraging. We can’t wait to see what the future holds - we’d be delighted if you would join us.
